# Light Requirements

## Bright indirect light
Most common foliage plants want bright indirect light: enough light to read comfortably and cast a soft shadow, without hours of harsh sun.

## Growth clues
Long gaps between leaves, leaning stems, small new leaves, and fading variegation often signal insufficient light. Scorched patches can signal too much direct sun.

## Care link
Brighter light increases growth and water use, so pair light changes with [[Watering]]. [[source:66000000-0000-4000-8000-000000002102|RHS houseplant guidance]]
